Circumnavigation of Scotland! Skye and Orkney to Jura via the Caledonian Canal 2007

Leaving Glasgow on July 12th I joined Wind of Gare at Portree. Stormbound until the 14th we travelled via Cape Wrath to the mouth of Hoy and into Stromness, Orkney arriving 15th. Leaving Stromness at 0500 on the 18th via a glorious sunrise in Scapa Flow we made Airth Hope to await the ebb in the Pentland Firth. A rare bacon, egg and fresh coffee breakfast when we saw a small basking shark! A fast transit was made passing Duncansby Head, bypassing Wick to spend the night in picturesque Lybster. The Caithness coast gave way to the Dornoch and Cromarty Firths and so to Inverness where we entered the Caledonian Canal

Transiting the canal in 3 days and 2 nights we went on to circumnavigate Jura visiting West Loch Tarbet to 'The Hole'!.

Charts are at the end of the gallery (courtesy of Alastair!).

The trip was completed by arriving Loch Melfort on July 24th. A superb cruise! Thankyou Alastair, Sandy, Tom, John and the Wind of Gare!
