Tenthredo species of Sawfly
at the farm
found moving about in old field, but seemed to be perching
mainly on Meadowsweet. Observed 2 of these in one area
of the field. Looked as though one might have been
laying eggs on Meadowsweet.

Hi - yes, pretty sure about it being a sawfly. The Tenthredo genus do look a lot like wasps. Here are a couple of links to photos of other Tenthredo that i found on the web:

That looks like a wasp to me. Are you sure it is a sawfly?
