Thanks, David! That's one of my own favourite photos which I've taken of mantids too. That was a particularly beautiful mantis and very quiet and easy to photograph. The lighting on that day very much lent itself to creating some interesting shots. -- bev

This is one of my favourite pics on Pbase. I love mantids, particularly classic-looking green adult ones, like this one. The background and lighting give it a dreamlike, fantasy quality. Also there's an interesting contrast (possibly unintentional, I don't know) between the apparently gentle flowers and what is ounce-for-ounce the most lethal, vicious creature in the world. The spiny assassin bug in one of the other galleries is great too.
