Salisbury cathedral in an hour

I am fascinated by William Golding's inspired novel "The Spire" dealing with the creation of the spire in the mid C14th a few generations after the main build, so when a journey took us through Salisbury, I did a lunch hour rush. No tripod and anyway it would have taken much longer than relying on the high ISO performance of the camera.

The cathedral is in an unusually large close, everyone else having the sense not to build on the alluvium at the confluence of 2 rivers and contains enough 'goodies' for another day or 2. Legend has it that the bishop at the time when Old Sarum was abandoned was inspired to shoot an arrow and build the new cathedral where it landed. From the trouble this has caused over the ensuing 800 years, one is tempted to the verdict that it was in fact the devil whispering in his ear.
