what's dark and knobbly?

not quite sure what this tree is -see 'previous' for catkins and it is also the one on the left leading to the gate 'next'. Alder variant perhaps?

This sure looks like Alder to me, with male and female cones. Here in Ottawa, we have different species, but the growth habit is the same.

I like both images, but think this is my favorite for composition and DOF. Also, the shadows are excellent.
