My friend, Esther Grun, invited me over to her home in White Plains to identify some of the mushrooms growing in her yard. On a maple wood-chip pile these Leucocoprinus caepestipes were fruiting. Although they may look delicious, they are considered toxic. Like the related Leucocoprinus flos-sulfuris (Leucocoprinus birnbaumii, Lepiota lutea), this species is considered tropical and is frequently found growing in the soil of greenhouse nursery containers.
