Oulu, Finland - February and June 2005 and August 2006
500-600 Km north of Helsinki, Oulu is famous for it's technical engineering (it's the home of Nokia).
In February, it's also cold - very cold (although it was only -5C during our week, it's normally around -25C at this time of year). Snow and ice are the norm from November till March, but unlike England, life carries on as normal!!
Re-visiting in June, we found blue skies and warm sun - plus it doesn't get dark! Pictures at the beach at midnight seem quite strange!!
Really interesting and artistic photos, all of them! And those of places showing the difference between summer- and wintertime. I'm visiting a friend in Oulu and I hope this site could give me a good impression of the place before travelling.

Beautiful, I'm not much for the cold temps but I could enjoy the sun past midnight. Thanks for sharing. gmv

Hi!
Nice pics from my city. :)
To correct a few things. Oulu locates round 600 km from Helsinki. Yes, Nokia is a big thing in Oulu but the Head Office of Nokia locates in Espoo, Finland.
Some call Oulu as a little Silicon Valley in Finland coz of a lot of high tech companies here.
The average temperature in February here is around -10C but it can be like -25C or even -30C for few days. Brrrrr. :)
