You just took me back over 50 years ago to a quiet morning at Point Pelee: I had driven (don't know if one still can) to a marshy area, parked and there, dead ahead, was a swaying "stick" . . By some miracle, I simply took a breath and watched as the slender neck and head moved minutely back and forth. It was my first bittern but your photograph is exactly as I remember it.
