February 10 2006:
“Gate Gourmet Shame on You”

Whilst driving past Heathrow Airport, I saw this bunch of sacked workers who have been protesting here for the past six months. This was their chant.

Whilst the main dispute was settled last year, it seems that these people are still holding out. They were employed by Gate Gourmet, the huge airline catering company owned by David Bonderman. The dispute was triggered by a cost cutting exercise, although it is somewhat bizarre that Mr Bonderman paid $10million to stage his 60th birthday party with jokes supplied by Robin Williams and music by The Rolling Stones.

Hmmmm…

Don´t know about the man, but sounds like decadence. The shot is great.

Now I AM scared! Jude and I on the same wavelength, again, lol!
Well captured, and the irony is almost overwhelming.

Merde alors!

Make me sick to read the Bonderman story...
Great capture Ray.

There is a funereal look to this.. from the thumbnail (just for a moment) the image appeared to be a crowd walking along with some people in the background carrying a coffin. Maybe there's a message there? Really well composed, Ray.. and I agree about the newspaper.

A truly great shot, quite cinematic in its power --- it does draw you in. Bravo!!!

I don't know enough to comment on the politics of the situation, but this is great photojournalism - a shot The Independent would be proud of! Vote for Ray!
