December 2 2005:
The Quieter Route

I found a new spot today – its one that I knew existed as I’ve seen it from the train many times.

It’s where the motorway that orbits London, the M25, crosses the London to Southampton railway line as well as the Wey Navigation. This old man was walking his dog avoiding the bustle, although the rumble of the traffic above mimicked the sound of an urban kid with a monster ghetto blaster.

I feel this spot maybe be featured again – it seemed quite a playground.

This shot is amazing Ray. It makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Why? It's the way the shadow plays across the photo - The viewer can't tell what (or who) is making that shadow but the dog looking round suggests a person nearby, but the old man is oblivious to it. What with the graffiti. Fantastic. Vote

Here I like the light falling both on the man's and dog's hair.
And the composition, and the place.

Like in the 101 Dalmatians,
dogs look like their owners... same hairs...
Nice composition Ray, I like the gap in the walls
that lead to some green trees.

Judging from the graffitti, someone hangs out here. It's actually pretty artistic. I like the way you have the man and dog exiting through the concrete walls into the street.

Quite the set of contrasts. Definitely supercedes last year's shot!

The perspective thru the open walls is superb-really makes it go on forever. This has quite the light. Will be waiting for more from here, it's a good find.

Nice light, gives the effect of halos on the man and dog.

This looks a very interesting place. I like the colourful graffiti and you even got some sun today!

Walked through here often but never thought of it as a potential PAD location before!

excellent composition & lighting. the man and his dog seem to be spotlighted, as if on a stage. and I love that I can see a little bit beyond the concrete and graffiti.

Outstanding image! I love the light and the way the old man seems to be dwarfed by the graffitied walls.
