July 27 2004:
Volumes

As part of my family research, I visited the City Of London Cemetery today. Whilst in the back room looking at the registers, I noticed these old volumes on the shelf dating from around 1860. I can tell you they are really heavy to lift, and can only be opened by releasing some sturdy metal contraptions built on to books' casings.

This is such a lovely photo ... a timeless felling about it - like these books have been on this shelf forever, untouched ... very nice, Ray!

Can almost feel the rich leather texture, and smell the old. Excellent.

Beautiful, moody, great grain, wonderful light, well composed.

Your image conveys a very grave feeling with tones of age, secrets, and mustiness.

I like the deep colors here. and the detail.
Reminds me of a set of books i had when i was a child. "Journeys Through Bookland" - they have many prints but the rare ones are the leather-bound carved reddish ones. I look all the time for them

Oh yes, the lighting is exquisite, as are the textures.

Perfect lighting here, as if you shot it in a studio. Hey, research MY family too! Oh, wait you would have to go to Ireland and Scotland....Well, you are closer than I am
