March 5 2004:
Remembering the Beauty

Today, I took a stroll around the nearby crematorium. I found it to be full of spring, with literally thousands of crocuses and many other things coming out in bloom. But this statuette took my eye. I could not see who it was dedicated to, but I imagine the bereaved must have thought she was beautiful, or perhaps the deceased was keen on such beautiful works of art. That remains private.
I knelt down to the ground to get a shot, but could not quite clear the intrusive background of a tiled roof, so I cloned this out. But then I felt that the statue's weathered appearance did not reflect the beauty intended, so I played with Levels to give a pleasing silhouette effect of black on deep blue, but then her beautiful form was not shown off. I then hit the Gradient Tool to find this copper effect.

Well a crematorium would not be my FIRST choice of locations for a leisurely stroll Ray, but I see that you have found something here, and not the least bit creepy either! I like your technique for isolating the sculpture and placing it in the frame as a painting.

Excellent photoshop work to make this look like a gallery piece!! Very, very nice.

First I thought you had taken this photo indoors, then I thought, nah it's more of an oudoors shot. Then I read your caption. I love what you did to this. Beautiful indeed.

It has a very art deco quality to it. Lovely coppery tones to it, too - good job!

I don't think I've ever seen anything like this in a cemetary. I have heard of vicars refusing to allow the use of terms of endearment such as 'Mum' and 'Dad' on gravestones so the parish here must be very liberal. Good pic Ray.

Really like what you did with this photo.

Great work!! I think that scuptures and artwork are not always easy to photograph well, because the challenge is to add something special of your own. But you've definitely succeeded, a beautiful image!

This is breath taking Ray! I love the color/colour :) of the framing, and the photo! Awesome!

This is beautiful Ray, she's got a very romantic, dreamy quality as a result of your ps work which is just lovely.

Excellent work, Ray! Love the natural monotone look here and your PS work is flawless!

Creative work! It looks like you pulled this straight out of a museum!

Even with all you did to modify the image, I have to believe that this is as it was intended. Delicate and beautiful. Gets a vote.

It is good of you to be sensitive to the feelings of others with this type of thing.
You have handled it very well.

It sounds like you put a lot of work into coming up with this image, but the work was well worth it! Very nice results!

Curiousity for the history and story behind such a beautiful work of art. Lovely image Ray.
