Dungeness is a fascinating place, being a headland in south-east Kent not far from France. It is mainly shingle, and the people living here mainly do so in small wooden buildings. It's unique feel lends itself well to film-makers, and I have at least one CD cover that features this location. It does have a regular bus service, but the railway is unusual in being a narrow gauge one at just 15 inches (381mm).
This lighthouse was opened in 1961 and replaced a 1904 example as that could no longer be seen well with the erection of a nuclear power station here. Yes, Dungeness is far from normal!
