Long Marston

Hertfordshire view map

This humble village has an unusual claim to fame. Two of its residents were the last in Britain to be witch-lynched after a man from a local village claimed the couple had placed a curse on his cattle and could not produce any milk. The death penalty for witchcraft had been lifted in 1735, so when this incident occurred 16 years later, the locals took matters into their own hands and drowned the couple in a local pond.

Yers, a grim tale as Laine says. We surely passed through here.

Well that's a grim tale....I hope it's a friendlier place now...I like the Georgian style next door.
