April 17 2009:
Made in Western Germany

I met up with a friend for coffee today on the condition that he'd bring his Ilford Sportsman along so I could photograph it for my PAD!

He recently picked it up at no cost on freecycle, but I'm not sure if it works now. The strap has snapped (not photographed is the detachable leather case). But at a value of about £10, it must be nice to have!

Ilford were a British company but it seems the whole camera was built in Reutlingen, West Germany by Dacora with the Ilford label.

Wow, I'm totally speechless - it seems that Dacora were here until the early 70s and produced quite a lot of cameras. I googled around but couldn't find any information about where the company was situated here in Reutlingen.
Tsk, a camera factory in MY hometown of all places, who'd have thought :-)))

Cool. Is that black diamond a rangefinder? Suddenly I want to load a film in my (Made in West Germany) Kodak Retinette...

I visited Ilford once.
Can't say I remember much about it though.

A gaspipe camera! Nice design, though! Looks very 1950's!
