Texas Canyon, Dragoon, AZ

Driving up the dirt road to my office, I am always looking around for birds, animals, turtles, and
anything else that I might want to shoot. I saw this at the last minute and thought it was
a stick, a snake, a stick, a snake....
I drove over it, I could not stop that quickly on a dirt road and nowhere to swerve!
I stopped the car because I had to know: was that a snake or a stick?

This reminds me of our trip to Arizona when our guide stopped suddenly, jumped out and grabbed a Sonoran gopher snake from the highway. I took it back to Texas in a thermal mug on our plane ride home! That was before 9/11 and airport security!

Unreal...it must have thrown you a bit when you realized it was a snake.

You have a great heart! Just consider it as a part of 21st century ecosystem.

Oops! Now you have to petition the county for a stick-snake tunnel to cross that road. :)

Nice shot Carol but bummer on the stick snake. It looks like you weren't the first to run him over. Stick snakes a very hard to kill. v

Cool image with the tire treds leaving an interesting texture for the background! Yup, that would have had me jumping out to rescue too. Great image!

Hmmm. I don't see any skid marks. : ^ )

I think you could take some comfort in that fact that you did not kill it. That one would have made me get out to look as well. Looks like it might be a Chihuahuan stick snake, which usually aren't seen that far north.

Just dust it off, it'll be alright.

Not as bad as the time I was teaching Vicky how to drive a manual car. You can imagine the tensions that exist at these times (I am a complete b#$%@#$). Anyway a kitten ran across the road in front of us. It just got out of our path and we went PHEW! Then we noticed a autumn leaf just in front of us..... unfortunately so did the kitten and ran back to play.... She did not drive for a couple of months after that.

Sniff.

Nice textures, sorry about the snake, VOTE!

One of those rare Arizona Stick Snakes. Almost impossible to kill by running over them!
