Hood County Court House - First Place Award Winning Photograph

Granbury, Texas

The Hood County Court House is the center of the Granbury Historic District. Named after Confederate General Hood the county is predominantly rural with its focus on Lake Granbury. The Court House was built in 1891 and is designed in the Second Empire/Romanesque-style. Its white limestone was quarried within 5 miles of the town square.

This photograph was entered in the 2005 Photography Exhibit of the Granbury Art Association where it was awarded first place in the Landscape/Architecture category. I spent an entire year studying this building and how the sun played on its lines. This was the end result on a Sunday morning.

Yes, it was cropped and resized to 8"x10" for the print; however, this image does not do justice to the original. I always feel a twinge of pain when I post a quality photograph on PBase. The reason is that I print in TIFF 16-bit while anything posted here is "dumbed down" to JPEG q.6. That is a major difference! There is simply no way to duplicate TIFF 16-bit quality here. Most of the finer details are lost.
