30 V-Drum Sander Dolly Detail

Pearland, Texas

Here are the corner details of the dolly with the stand on top. I used 3/8" diameter nuts and bolts, nothing fancy, but they added up as I used them liberally. The locking lever on the 4" wheel is visible and accessible, rather nicely too.

I bought 4 of the 4" wheels from Grizzly. They are model #G8176. Using 4" wheels has it's advantages when going over small bumps. It's a lot easier than pushing it on 2" wheels :-) There is also better access to the locking levers, making it much easier to use them :-) All in all they were an excellent decision :-)

The wheels are offset to the sides of the V-Drum Sander dolly, not the front and back. I did this to keep the profile of the unit as narrow as possible. Now when it is in place along the garage wall it is pretty much in line with my other machinery. There is nothing sticking out in the front to trip me when I get too involved with a project.

The unit is very stabile. I am well pleased with it.

I'll give the unit a month or so to acclimatize to the area and then check all of the nuts and bolts to make sure that they are still secure. Then I'll put a wee dab of silicone on top of each nut where it meets the threads. This will help to keep the nuts in place. One or two may loosen over the course of a year, but they will remain basically in place on the bolt. If I need to remove a nut then I'll just peel off the dab of silicone, and the nut will come off easily.

After moving the sander several times and having the legs jump out of the rubber feet at their bases I came to the conclusion that an angle bracket was needed to secure each leg to the base.

In the next few days I'll be reporting on a new attachment for my V-Drum Sander :-)
