Johnstons Pioneering in Maymont Saskatchewan

Pearland, Texas

I am guessing that this photograph was taken sometime in the 1920s. The pioneer's life was not an easy one, but land was inexpensive and available. On the back of the photograph Mrs. R. Johnston wrote: "...in the night the squeaking wheels on the Red River carts could be heard as they passed, on their way to 'North Battleford'."

Archie Johnston on the left, son of Mrs. Robert Johnston (Anne Sproule)
Mrs. Robert Johnston in the middle
Sam Johnston on the right

This is the only photo that I have of these kin.

Looking at Sam's shoes I can see the "genetic link"...lol...they are very large! I wear size 17 shoes and my son size 19.

0.00s full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Hello Nick, I just am seeing this now. my email is pminer40@hotmail.com. There is a Sam in the corner and Sam in the field in our family of Johnstons in Maymont. Alexander Johnston buried in Maymont is my ggrandfather. His son was Maurice who's son Harland is my Dad. I will try and get the information on the exact connection.

We have just returned from a trip to Maymont, Saskatchewan where we walked the graveyard searching for my wife's ancestors. Unfortunately we don't have that much information about the family. Very excited about the possibilities behind this picture. My wifes' GF was Samuel (Sam) Frederick and he had a brother named Robert. Not sure about an Archie Johnston relationship although we did see a monument in the cemetery with that name. Hoping that there may be a connection with this picture. If anyone can help ......
