Creance 2 - Flyway Set-up

This is my creance set-up. It is on the bank of a flood-control channel that is beside our house. The Housing Association cuts the grass on a regular basis, but the channel bottom which is approximately 60'-70' across remains untouched for the most part. The water district maintains the bottom and cuts down on an irregular basis the trees which start to grow there. This habitat supports a variety of wildlife including nutria, ducks, herons, egrets, curlews, ibis, etc.. The water contains bluegills, catfish and flounder that I know of as I've seen the remains on the banks.

The creance itself has 2 of the previously described poles, a 50' run of orange-colored, parachute cord and a 14' leash. I love it. Of course things can go wrong, and they have. Fortunately each time the leash got caught on something, the set-up brought Tara to a slow stop, and she landed on her feet each time. The poles and the parachute cord have some give to them, just right for a creance, IMO. I learned very quickly that it is important to check the line each and every time that a flight is made, both ways as all of my mistakes were made on return flights!

Tara can be seen about midway along the creance eating off the lure on the ground.

The first time that I used this set-up I put Tara on the ground, walked away from her and offered the glove. She looked at me quizically and after a few moments of hesitation she started walking to me...not what I expected or wanted. I must admit though that she looked rather comical as she had a wee bit of a waddle in her walk...lol... After the second walk I decided that this was not working. It was not what I needed. If you will notice the pine tree in the immediate background - the lower branch on the left side has been cleared of "deadwood", and it makes the perfect perch now :-)
