Jacques, 70, has been living with HIV/AIDS for 22 years, which necessitates the daily consumption of more than 20 medications, his “cocktail”, as he calls it. This former successful radio announcer in Toronto lost many close friends to AIDS since the middle of the 1980s.

Jacques, 70 ans, vit depuis 22 ans avec le virus du SIDA, ce qui nécessite l’absorption quotidienne de plus de 20 médicaments, son « cocktail ». Cet ancien annonceur de radio bien connu à Toronto a perdu un grand nombre d’amis à cause de cette maladie depuis le milieu des années 1980.

bel hommage ! Et merci de communiquer sur les horreurs liées au SIDA, et aux comportements des humains par rapport à ça ! La photographie est aussi un moyen d'informer, de mettre à la lumière ce qui est parfois volontairement mis dans l'ombre !

Wish him luck. I am not healthy too (not AIDS but..), taking about 5 medications a day and I know what is this, when your body full of chemicals.

Une belle série, très bien faite, pleine d'émotion, mais d'émotion qui ne "crie" pas. Il y a beaucoup de dignité, de respect dans ces images. Bravo.

Speaking as someone whose passion is taking pictures of people, I can say that it is rare that you can take a series of images of one person, unposed and make each in itself a telling portrait. People are naturally self-concious, and so the camera no longer becomes silent and invisible witness, but more of a director. The art of journalism is to maintain that separation yet be part of the moment. I love the way he seems unaware of you...that is what makes these images what they are...it is just him, in his life...K

There are few photojournalistic galleries that tell this story as well as you have. You've gone beyond and create a very human element to your tale -- a sad tale too. This cocktail of photos, each unique, shows me his plight. As always, excellent creations, Christine.

Just as with your "waiting" series, the cumulative effect of all ten images means more to me than any single image could. You edit these strongly journalistic photographs cogently and show great discipline. There is no redundancy --each images makes its point and makes it well. When we are finished, we feel as if we know him. You have gotten your camera, as HCB would say, "between the shirt and the skin." He lives, not only with AIDS, but here on my screen. You are a thoughtful, caring human being, Christine -- it shows in these compassionate images.
