Flatey Island – one of the largest of the 2700 islands dotting Breiđafjörđur. Once a thriving fishing community and major cultural centre,
the population has dwindled to the minimum needed to support tourists and summer visitors. The old timber houses in the small village have
been lovingly restored, and the church, built in 1926, now houses the oldest and smallest library in Iceland, established in 1864.
