Saranda Kolones – the Forty Columns Fortress, a Byzantine castle built in the 7th century AD to protect the port and city of Pafos from Arab raids,
and later remodeled by the Lusignans at the beginning of the 13th century. The castle was destroyed by an earthquake in 1220.
