Torremolinos

"T-Town" (or "Torrie") grew from a small village in the 1950s to one of the busiest resorts
on the Costa del Sol, largely as a result of the mass expansion of "sun, sand & sangria" package
holidays during the 1970s and '80s. It became synonymous with all that's wrong with unhindered
development. It spawned a red-light district and disreputable nightlife to provide R&R for sailors
in the nearby port of Málaga. Recently, it has cleaned up its act, with huge sums of money being
spent on the town and millions of tonnes of golden sand to enlarge the beaches.
Out of season, it has a curious charm, now.
