Here’s a very small selection of the 8000+ images I took on our recent trip to China. We started off with a few days in Beijing, visiting most of the usual places, including the Forbidden City, the Great Wall and the Summer Palace, then took an overnight sleeper train (1st class soft!) to Xi’an, for the Terracotta Army; a flight to Wuhan and a bus to Yichang to board a cruise ship for 4 nights on the Yangzi, to Chongqing. After a visit to see the pandas in Chongqing, we flew to Kunming in Yunnan Province, to visit the Stone Forest. Then a long bus ride to Dali through some wonderful countryside, back to Kunming and a flight to Guilin for another cruise on the Li River, through the spectacular limestone karsts of the region, disembarking in Yangshuo. A bus ride back to Guilin to see nocturnal cormorant fishing (specially arranged for the tourists!), followed by another flight, to Shanghai. From Shanghai, we visited Suzhou, “Venice of the East”, for a short cruise on the Grand Canal, then to Hangzhou, tea plantations and the largest temple in southern China, before returning to Shanghai for a night cruise on the Huangpo River. Our trip ended with an additional three nights in Hong Kong.
In total, during the 31 days of our trip, we traveled over 8000 km around China, by air, by train, by bus, by boat, by taxi, by rickshaw - and by foot!
