The Lilac Arboretum

Every spring, for about two weeks, the Lilac Arboretum in Ewing Park, Des Moines, Iowa, is awash with color. This park has hundreds of lilac trees as well as many other types of beautiful trees. It is a spring tradition to come walk through all of them, and it is a very special place to me.

My husband and I lived in Des Moines when we were first married, and I have wonderful memories of visiting Ewing Park. I think of it every year when my own lilac bush is in bloom. Thank you for a lovely post

Hi, I have been looking for some photos of the Lilac flowers and foliage, I am an artist and have a commissionn to paint one of my products, in this case the Trug for a customer whose friend is moving to 'Lilac Cottage' .

I was looking for desktop pictures and stumbled onto this site with my wife. As we live in Korea I was explaining to her that we had similar gardens of lilacs in Iowa. I was very suprised to see it was one and the same from my memories.

Hi--lovely web site. I was thinking this morning as spring is approaching about Ewing park and wondering if it was still there. I spent many lovely hours there in the 60s and 70s while a student at Drake. Thanks
