Uluru (Ayers Rock) - Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park - Central Australia - Northern Territory
Uluru is a massive monolith, standing 348m high and 9.4km around the base. Like an iceberg, much of it is actually underground!
The sunset viewing area for Uluru gets quite busy, but being one of the first to get there enabled us to pick a suitable spot for our camp chairs
and have a relaxing few hours watching the changing hues of Uluru through late afternoon, sunset and moonlight. Despite the presence of flies
and distracted by numerous tourists doing obligatory funny or 'kissy' photos with tiny cameras, I remained in my camp chair with serious camera and tripod put to work.
Perhaps my photos would look like everybody else's but at the very least I would have my own 'home made' memento of the amazing monolith. A memorable time in Australia's great outdoors!
Note - we did NOT climb Uluru and in fact it is greatly discouraged, not only because it is a sacred site for the Anangu people, but because of safety issues.
