The Red Centre in Australia's outback is home to Alice Springs, Kings Canyon, Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas).
Flying to Alice Springs from Adelaide and then hiring a 4wd campervan, we embarked on a week long road trip of the Red Centre,
our first visit to the Northern Territory! Special airfares, and camping, made the trip affordable for us.
Expecting just barren deserts we were in for quite a surprise as the area had received good rain in recent months, 300mm in
January had been mentioned, the usual ANNUAL rainfall is around 60mm! A local told me it was the greenest place in Australia.
Our timing was such that we experienced a vibrant green 'red centre' whilst managing to avoid holiday and peak tourist periods.
Having a 4wd enabled us to get off the bitumen, onto some lovely red dirt roads, but the bitumen roads up there are excellent
and many main 'attractions' in Central Australia can be accessed by normal vehicles. Hot sunny days, good light, blue skies -
terrific sight seeing and naturally vibrant photo opportunities in Central Australia NT just kept on coming!
