Top End - Northern Territory
The "Top End" of Australia has a tropical climate with a wet and dry season, unlike the four seasons we are used to at home in Victoria.
Our holiday break coincided with the late dry season in the Northern Territory. The peak tourist season was over or close to
over and we got to enjoy clear warm (low/mid 30s) sunny blue-sky days. Roads and wetland cruises were all still accessible. And
from a wildlife viewing and photography perspective wildlife are more likely to be found around the remaining shrunken water bodies.

Winter sickness had really got me down, to the point I thought I'd have to cancel our trip! I was so blocked up it was severely effecting
my communication and balance. I needed a procedure done on my ear to enable me to fly! With flights to Darwin paid for, rental car
arranged and a couple of night's accommodation in place we then headed off to explore the Top End of the NT - a new destination and
road trip adventure. No camping this time, we would 'wing it' somewhat and find places to stay at on route.

Most of the main roads in Central Australia and the Top End of the Northern Territory are well maintained bitumen, the popular
attractions reachable by ordinary 2wd vehicles. If you want to test your survival or 4wd skills and tackle rugged terrain you can
probably do so. But we were more than happy to travel light and be ordinary tourists.

All up we spent 9 days, driving 2200kms, experiencing Kakadu, Katherine Nitmiluk, Litchfield and more. But not much time in Darwin itself,
ran out of time! Having visited Central Australia, and now the Top End, we truly love the Territory and can see return visits happening!
