Ron usually started his races in the lead, but in between then and finishing, someone like (Fast) Freddie Spencer would sneak ahead of him.
He still has the credit for launching the technique for cornering with one knee rubbing along the track (check the pad taped to his knee). History doesn't record what happened if the knee came into contact with some grit whilst sliding along the track at >100mph
