'tis true...you can't go home again

and my legs are still short ...

Lately, I have come to think that home may be entirely in our hearts..
I realize as time passes, that we polish the best memories and push
the rest to the back of the drawer ...best forgotten..
(that is if one chooses to dwell in a world full of love and laughter..
no payoff in polishing old grudges... My Mom was very adept at that)
So, in the end..the home in our heart is our own to cherish..Reality be damned..

I quite agree with you, regarding the wisdom of not glossing over every negative experience or person that enters our lives. That would result in an absence of awareness that there are just some people and/or stones in the road, that best be avoided. There is only one person, on the periphery of my life, that eminently meets all of the qualifications of said stone... No..make that two people...grin.

When writing the original words, I was primarily thinking of the example of my dear mother. She had a childhood that impaired her for the rest of her life. No matter how much love, attention, and material goods she had, she still felt 'without'. She could have been so much more; more in the way she lived her life. She was a very self-centered...no make that self-obsessed..person. I write this with no bitterness; only sadness that she was the person that made herself so unhappy.

No one I know of (well perhaps my dear next door neighbors, whom we have lived side by side with for 34 years..smile) had the family life and growing up years that we see portrayed in the sitcoms of the Father Knows Best and Leave it to Beaver eras. Perhaps it is because of the bitter-sweet (hopefully much more sweet than bitter) nature of life, that one can relish the joys while acknoldging the sad. Sad is a better fit for me, than bitter. Bitterness, now that I think of it, is what I was intending to avoid. It can be poison.

I hope I made sense...I write this hastily...but I wanted to reply to your words.

Don, I very much enjoy your thoughts and yourself... Smiles&Puppies to you, my friend %:)...Puppies being my metaphor for all that is joy-filled, full of love, happy abandon and the wonderful ability to wring the most out of each and every moment.

Interesting idea...thought provoking.
Much springs to mind in your words - rosy coloured glasses, nothing stays the same..just to get started.
A beautiful image too.
Excellent C...
Best wishes Rob
