This is extraordinary. The wasted stark landscape is profound. Fantastic work!

You are a talented photographer.

This is what Hieronymus Bosch would do if he was alive today and had a camera. Bravo!!!

Amazing -what a great image...particularly in B&W. Those verticals seem to me to bring some kind of haphazard order to the chaos..
Another terrific image Craig.
Regards Rob

very nice!

i pass through bakersfield on photo trips to so. cal, and i'm always wanting to get images of the place but somehow i find the city elusive. i've found lots to photograph in fresno but i still don't know how to penetrate bakersfield. i'm looking forward to looking through the rest of this gallery

pick....I'd put this busy image next to the other of the downtown sign...very cool

It looks like a very old photo indeed.... It's almost like I can see movement in there :) I can't explain but that's what I feel like all was animated...

Great shot. Not exactly what Bakersfield wants for its postcard.
Sue Robertson07-Mar-2006 06:51
Great shot. the detail is amazing.
Guest 07-Mar-2006 03:10
Wonderful. So much detail. It almost looks like a "naive" painting. Vote.
Guest 06-Mar-2006 22:00
excellent contrast, the place looks so strange, you got a nice shot here.
Guest 06-Mar-2006 17:25

what a find....great choice of lens to compress this landscape and tell a busy story. Fantastic!
Guest 05-Mar-2006 22:58
Reminds me of an old map - for some reason Egyptian hieroglyphics spring to mind as well!
So wonderfully different from any image I've seen before - voted.

don't know what to say more... speachless....
Guest 05-Mar-2006 20:38
Easy to see why it's called "Oildale"! Absolutely stunning shot Craig, I'd love to see a really big print of this - I want to stare into the detail. Bleak, thought provoking and beautiful. Voted

This is wonderful it reminds me of an old photo. It's also somehow depressing - the poor land.

Mind-blowing! Love the details and this is a very unique addition to your bakersfield gallery. Well done --> Voted!

A cosmos of details - industrial landscape with a feeling of depression - superb treatment and tonality.
Guest 05-Mar-2006 04:27

This great industrial landscape reminds me Edward Burtynsky's work. Impressive piece of art.

It somehow reminds me old B&W pictures from 50 or so years old papers. Very interesting effect. B&W stunning. GMV

Killer subject. Love how the long focal length compresses everything together. Another gerat addition. Excellent capture and I think the choice of processing is spot on here.

Impressive landscape!
I completely agree with Eckhart.
Eckhart Derschmidt04-Mar-2006 23:42
Took some time to get what is on that picture. Not much of nature left here. The BW adds to the depressive atmosphere. Great shot!

Extraordinary landscape, B&W just adds to the bleakness. All those vertical lines going off uphill into infinity and the total industrialisation of the land. Excellent composition.
