This Goose needs the assistance of Humans but finding enough people to help her is a problem. A couple of months ago she was found limping in the park possibly from kids chasing her. I thought she had been rescued and taken to the Wild Bird Care Centre or had died.

Sadly a number of people think of geese as just another bird or a menance. Some parents have continued to allow their children to chase her even with her injury. It is my understanding that the geese are a protected bird yet we cannot get help to help her. :-(

Apparently she has been in the park for the past couple of months with what looks like the flesh on her leg decomposing. Her web is completely gone.

At the present time she struggles to get in and out of the water. She still has family here as I watched the other night as she perked up when a certain flock of geese came in and she actually flew out into the river with them.

The Wild Bird Care Centre does not have the funding and or personnel to rescue her so a few of us have been trying to organize a resuce to either catch her and have her put down or have her cared for. So far we have not had any luck getting enough people at the same time and she is able to get back into the water if we get too close.

The Ottawa Humane Society has not responded to my email.

The person at the Ministry of Natural Resources in Kemptville who deals with wildlife is out of the office until Nov. 15th.

Although there is a By-law forbidding feeding the wildlife a couple of us try to get to her daily to provide her with food (animal corn). Unfortunately the colder weather is coming and if we do not get her she will freeze to death either stuck on the ice or in the snow.

Also due to the fact that Geese have a very strong family network who stay with an injured or sick family member we are at risk of having other family members getting into trouble when they stay with this bird who will not be able to fly south.
