My Surgery

On Nov.9, 2011 I underwent bi-lateral knee replacement surgery. I had been scheduled for repplaceing the left knee at this time and then around the first of the new year have the right knee replaced. My surgeon had all along didcuraged the double knee surgery. I had talked to a couple of ladies that had done the double and they both highly recomended it.

There are good reasons for doing this replacement surgery all at once or waiting for a time period in between.
ONE AT A Time:
You still have a leg to stand on.
You can decide that you never want to do the second knee because of the pain you went through on the first knee.
BOTH KNEES AT ONE TIME:
Your brain can on register so much pain at any one time, the pain for two knees is over in the same period of time as doing one knee.
The recovery time for two knees is about the same as doing one knee and then you are through with it.
Do I recomend doing both knees in one big surgery! Yes, but with some reservations.
You need to be quite healthy, with no other underlying health issues.
You need to be mentally strong, physically strong, and determined to get well.
My doctor told me that "Pain is Gain. "No Pain no Gain".
The key to any knee replacement surgery is doing therapy, therapy and then a little more therapy.
This is not a fun surgery but I am so gplad I did it this way. At this point in time (two weeks and two days since the surgery) I am able to use the stairs and walk for short periods of time without my crutches. Yesterday I helped to make Thanksgining dinner.
