Wreck of the Vamar (Lumbership), updated 6 Aug 2010
The wreck of the Vamar, formerly Eleanor Bolling. The Eleanor Bolling is a historically significant vessel as it was one of the Antarctic expedition vessels used by Admiral Richard Byrd in his famous quest to circum naviate the South Pole in 1928.
This is a shallow wreck in only 25-feet of water and is a fantastic dive if you have some decent visibility. We have seen as many as three Goliath Groupers and two Nurse Sharks on a single dive. We have also encountered a friendly Loggerhead Turtle. The wreck is usually loaded with bait fish which means there is lots of action from predators such as mackerals and jacks. Try a late afternoon or evening dive to catch Lookdowns in their mating ritual. Macro photographers will find plenty of blennies on the highest portions of the wreck.
