Bob and I hopped in the car and headed for Camliyayla, Turkey on a sunny day in February. We went up the Otobahn as far as Gulek and then followed a paved road through the hills and pine forests, across a beautiful lake and into the town of Camliyayla. I was amazed at the size of the town, but it was not crowded this time of year. In the summer, I understand it overflows with people escaping the heat of Adana. We spent some time hiking the rocky outcropping to the fortress, then had a simple lunch of lamancuh (like little Turkish pizzas) in the center of town, and then went "four wheeling" in my Honda to the Sinap Kalesi, which looked more like a watch tower to me. I held my breath more than once as Bob navigated down 2 miles of muddy track to get to the tower, but we made it safe and sound--I love my Honda (and Bob of course).
Camliyayla, Turkey: Feb 2008
The village has some very nice, modern homes, but I love the old houses.
Ewe grazing along our path.
Steps carved out of the rocky landscape.
Self-portrait--I'm just so happy to be outside on such a beautiful day.
It was such a beautiful day that I was able to roll up my sleeves and work on my tan.
The stairs we took down were a little steeper than the stairs we took up.
Another old stone house in Camliyayla. The fortress is on the left.
