"This statue of Blessed Lorenzo Ruiz - a gift of His Holiness Pope John Paul II to the people of the Philippines -
commemorates the beatification of their glorious martyr" (inscription on statue in Manila, dated February 1984).

Beatified by Pope John Paul II in Manila on February 18, 1981. Elevated to full honors of the altar
by canonization on October 18, 1987 in Rome. Feast day is on September 28.
