Along the Via del Teatro di Marcello is the Aracoeli staircase (1348) which was made to commemorate the end of the plague.
It leads to the stony façade of the Santa Maria in Aracoeli Church which was once the site of the Temple of Juno (6th century).
On the right are the steps leading to the Piazza del Campidoglio (not seen here) with geometric paving and building façade designed by Michelangelo.
