Ghent.2.jpg

On the walking pavement/bridge of St. Michielsstraat, there is a fantastic view of the Leie River
with the Koornlei (Korenlei) on the left and the Graslei on the right bank.

The Korenlei, together with the Graslei, used to be the center of a Medieval port full of traders, dock workers, porters, bakers and brewers
who came here to offer their wares to the crowds. The interesting buildings - the one with the red-tiled roof is the oldest, while the barely visible
tiny red-bricked building on its left (sandwiched between the blue-tiled one) is the smallest - are still one of the glories of the city today.

Well I was fortunate enough to have a nice, accomodating 'tourist guide' who inspired me
to have a look back and read more about your historic town of Ghent. :-)

Did you know our National Hero Dr. José P. Rizal had his 2nd novel "El Filibusterismo"
published here in the middle of September, 1891 ?
