Hi...my name is De'de', and I was born up here in 1951, in Hipass. My father spent most of his time in the Mohave, and Anza Borrego desert in particular on his archaeological digs. One time, he came home with some Spanish gold coins he had found; he had no use for them! His work is in the San Diego Museum of Man in Balboa Park, where he was the director and field archaeologist for many years before his death in 1960. His name was Malcolm Rogers, and he got the ranch up in Hipass, when he and my mother were married and beginning a family. My fondest memories are of the old market in Jacumba, getting popsicles on a hot summer day; and the springs on our property, where my father built a spring-fed swimming pool. I think the property is a Boy Scout camp now. Well, I just wanted to tell you how I appreciate your wonderful photographs. Isn't the Carrizo Gorge the strangest place? All the best, De'de' Rogers Meyer
