Second Growth Tree Ring

view map

Here is a ring of young redwood trees surrounding the logged stump of its parent tree.
There are a lot of these tree rings as the Santa Cruz mountains were heavily logged in the 1800's.

Did a guided tour of a recreation park, Little Basin, once owned by the Hewlett-Packard corporation.
This park was purchased by the Sempervirens Fund to preserve the redwoods and very nice facilities. This park will be made part of the larger and neighboring Big Basin State Park when the state has the funds to accommodate it.
