A warm Spring Day brought all these "average" people together to watch the 2011 Kansas City's St Patrick's Day Parade.

During the early 1800's, foundations were laid for the city's St Patrick's Day Parade. However, interest by the Irish community eventually faded until the annual Parade had completely disappeared. Almost a Century later, radio talk host Mike Murphy decided to get his buddies Pat O'Neill and Dan Hoggerty together for a St Patrick's Day walk around the block of a small bar. Although the 1973 "parade" was tiny and unimpressive, it led to the rebirth of an old Kansas City tradition. Since 1973, Kansas City's St Patrick's Day parade has since grown significantly. It is today the largest single day event in Kansas City. It is also the 2nd largest St Patrick's Day Parade in the entire United States.

Still, this gallery is not about the Parade itself. Nor is it about people in the Parade. Instead, it is about the everyday people who came to see the Parade. Although Mike Murphey passed away earlier this year, he leaves behind the spirit of the Irish. For one day each year, the people and their pets of Kansas City become "Irish for a Day".
