They are memories.
Just after I first got married, I bought these "special" tulip bulbs direct from Holland and planted them along the front walk of our first home. There were originally about 50 of these bright yellow daffodils. Each year the bulbs multiplied. Each Fall, I would divide and replant the new bulbs. Eventually the bright Spring display extended along our entire front walk.
When we left the East Coast, I dug up my hundreds and hundreds of daffodil and tulip bulbs (about 30 different named varieties) and brought them with us when we moved out here. The front yard of our previous home looked like Hollard in the Springtime. Unfortunately due to various mishaps while building our new house, my treasured bulbs didn't get planted for about 2 years. Most sadly also did not survive.
To my surprise two Springs after I planted close to one thousand, ill fated bulbs in the ground here, one single yellow daffodil did pop up. Although this lone survivor did not rapidly multiply like the originals did Back East, it eventually grew into this small cluster. These daffodils now return each year to remind me of the glorious Spring display I once enjoyed back when life was less busy and I had more time for gardening.
