Photographing bears on or near the Coasts of Lake Clark National Park is very tidal dependant. In addition to the tidal mud flats that widen and recede with the tides, there is also a large network of small streams that also rise and fall according to the tides. At times, these streams and inland bodies of water may be but a mere trickle; while at other times, the same sloughs may be wide and deep enough to float a boat.
Because water is everywhere, rubber boots and hip waders are a necessity for people to get around; even in the meadows away from the tidal flats. Sloughs are everywhere. However, the bears don't seem to care about the constant mud nor having to cross so many bodies of water. It's just a way of life for them.
