Thanks, Greg. IMO the Canon 100-400L IS provides the flexibility and reach (x1.6 on your Rebel) for birds. It has its downsides (bulky/heavy, push-pull action), but the image stabilization allows for hand-held shots, and that gives me mobility and freedom when attempting to capture images of birds.

Wow! Terrific shot of one of my favorite raptors! Love the expression on its face. I just bought a Digital Rebel and when my bank account recovers I'll go after som long lenses. Any favorites for birds?
