Thanks, Greg. IMO the Canon 100-400L IS provides the flexibility and reach (x1.6 on your Rebel) for birds. It has its downsides (bulky/heavy, push-pull action), but the image stabilization allows for hand-held shots, and that gives me mobility and freedom when attempting to capture images of birds.

Terrific shot of one of my favorite raptors! Love the expression on its face.

I just bought a Digital Rebel and when my bank account recovers I'll go after som long lenses. Any favorites for birds?
