Driving into Death Valley from the west, I could see lightning increasing all around as I approached the Park. When the time felt 'right', I stopped the car and began shooting. This one was taken in the middle of the road, close to midnight, as a storm was passing from south to north in front of me. I used the car headlights to add some foreground interest, and took long exposures until the lightning flashed. This was the best of the bunch. To say the least, I was a bit apprehensive about setting up
in the middle of the highway with my tripod, but I could see at least 10 miles in each direction,
giving me a lot of warning for any oncoming cars.
