When you find yourself shooting the same type of subject matter no matter where you are, would you call it a ‘rut’, or the development of a ‘theme’?? I ask this because I’ve noticed that over the past year I’ve taken a _lot_ of pictures of solo tree trunks against sandstone walls. Perhaps it’s the symmetry and power of the hard lines of the trunk against the chaotic sandstone patterns, perhaps the textural and physical contrasts between animate and inanimate forms, perhaps I’m just in a rut. Anyway, I love this image, and the hundreds like it which are starting to fill my archives. Perhaps I’ll put together a gallery just of tree trunks in the near future…who knows!
