I absolutely love this area of Oak Creek Canyon. Several other images in my galleries have been taken within 10 feet of this location - and one other of this same tree. Perhaps it is the texture of the bare tree against the red sandstone, flushed in the rich indirect light which is so attractive. In this case, I was drawn to the contrast between the mature tree trunks and the new sprig, growing out of the base of the existing tree. This was taken on a cloudy day when the warm reflected light wasn't as strong as previous visits to this location...and the tree bark appeared particularly lifeless. The new growth, however, is a clue that this tree is far from dead...
