ice adornment

Babler State Park, Missouri view map

It has been very cold here for the last week, so I went out to look for some interesting ice photos on the weekend. This seed pod had floated onto a self of ice and some ice crystals had started grow on its stem. It was so cold, that my eyes would not stop watering - making it very difficult to focus. I used my left eye as it watered less and then turn the f-stop to a high number for maximum DOF and did my best. Maybe someone from a colder climate has a tip on how to photograph when its really cold and your eye water - Maybe I have to buy an auto focus lens.

Very beautifull. I photograph out side down to -30°C. Eyes water, I have a handkerchief and if no wind it seems to grow weeker with time. Luckely for auto-focus. Now for the nose , any tips, apart from a plug. :)

Very, very nice abstract. This ice construction really looks like a flower.

Tears are just a nuisance that, unfortunately, come more easily as we age.
John has the right idea: basically just ignore the watering eyes as best you can. Any attempt to dry the tears (other than John's suggestion) will just irritate, stimulating greater and more prolonged flow.
Some people claim that they are helped by using some of the various "artificial tears" formulations. I'm told that some brands cling and don't evaporate or wash out too quickly. Perhaps a pharmacist could sugggest something helpful.

Oh Yes: I really enjoyed your gallery, too.

Excellent Robert by all means! Well done.

Beautiful. One tip is not to wipe the eyes as this seems to cause more tearing. Use something soft, (not rough), to gently dab away the tears.

Great capture and well seen! Cold weather can be trying but often presents unique photo opportunities - like this one. v

Well, your eyes-watering problem sure didn't hurt the photo! This is stunning & in perfect focus IMHO. As Brinn says, it borders on the abstract. Wonderful job! B
